The winter ski season begins in just a few weeks, and our transit-accessible local mountain is gearing up for a transition to community ownership. Eldora Mountain Resort’s Director of Sustainability, Hunter Wright, will present about Eldora’s Play Forever initiatives, the resort’s advancements in promoting sustainable transportation and community partnerships, and what the shift to community ownership means for the future of Eldora and the town of Nederland.
E-bikes are an ever-popular option for getting around Boulder – even in winter. With the proliferation of different types of e-bikes and small electric vehicles known as “e-motos,” the sustainable transportation landscape is changing and sparking questions about who should ride where. We’ll host an e-bike safety panel with special guests Ash Lovell, Vice President of Government Relations with People for Bikes; Amy Thompson, Safe Routes to School Coordinator with the Boulder Valley School District; and Ericka Amador, Senior Transportation Planner with the City of Boulder.
As we approach winter in the northern hemisphere, the planet tilts toward summer in Australia, where the City of Boulder’s Senior Engineering Manager, Gerrit Slatter, spent time on a professional sabbatical earlier this year. There, he learned about how Australia has used engineering to achieve success with Vision Zero, the international approach to reducing serious and fatal traffic crashes.
