The City of Boulder began construction this week to enhance safety at the 28th Street and Pine Street intersection as part of the broader 28th Street Improvements Project. This project will create safer conditions for all travelers while maintaining efficient traffic flow in this busy commercial corridor.
Construction crews are installing raised crosswalks and concrete curb extensions designed to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users. These improvements will shorten crossing distances and increase visibility for people traveling through the intersection. The work is expected to be completed in February, pending weather and contractor availability.
Following completion, Pine Street will operate as right-turn-in and right-turn-out only from 28th Street. Traffic analysis confirms this modification will address crash patterns without significantly affecting vehicle operations at surrounding intersections.

This intersection upgrade is one component of the comprehensive 28th Street Improvements Project, scheduled to be complete by mid-2026. The full project includes dedicated bus lanes, improved turn lanes, and 10-foot-wide multi-use paths on both sides of the street.
