Construction on the Baseline Road Transportation Safety Project is now underway, bringing temporary travel impacts to one of Boulder’s key east-west corridors. The project aims to improve safety for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders through a series of infrastructure upgrades between 30th Street and Foothills Parkway.
Current Construction Zone: Inca Parkway
Crews recently completed new floating bus stops at Meadowbrook Drive and have shifted work to the Inca Parkway intersection, where activity is expected to continue through the week of May 11. During this phase, the inbound (south leg) lane on Inca Parkway will be closed. Westbound drivers should detour via Meadowbrook to Piñon; eastbound drivers should use Mohawk Drive. Outbound Inca Parkway remains open, with a flagger on site to assist. The bike lane is closed (cyclists should merge into vehicle traffic) while sidewalks remain passable. What’s Ahead
After Inca Parkway wraps up, construction will move east toward Foothills Parkway, intentionally skipping Mohawk Drive until Boulder Valley School District schools let out on May 21. Work will then return to Mohawk and proceed west to 30th Street during the University of Colorado-Boulder’s summer break. Full project completion is expected by winter/spring 2027, though the schedule may shift based on weather and field conditions.
Why It Matters for Commuters
When complete, the project will deliver meaningful upgrades for transit access and multimodal safety along Baseline, including floating bus stops with ADA-compliant boarding areas, permanent protected intersections at Mohawk Drive and 30th Street, a new signalized pedestrian crossing between 33rd and 34th streets, and concrete infrastructure replacing temporary paint-and-post treatments at several key side streets.
