The Go-Tober Company and Commuter Challenge was a great success! The Way to Go program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) wrapped the challenge on October 31 with participation from 78 companies and 914 individuals. Together, participants traveled an estimated 205,204 miles (the equivalent of going around the Earth eight times) by modes other than driving alone, saving approximately 74 tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the environment.
Among Way to Go partner organizations, the Boulder Chamber came out on top! Throughout the month of October, 13 Boulder Chamber staff members logged 420 alternative trips through the My Way to Go platform, saving nearly 5,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
Boulder’s own Pet Sustainability Coalition topped the leaderboard among businesses in the “XS” category. At that organization, employees tracked 302 alternative trips, preventing almost 3,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
Way to Go calculated winners among businesses in five size categories:
- XL (2,001 employees or more): Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
- L (501-2,000 employees): Denver Museum of Nature and Science
- M (101-500 employees): PCL Construction
- S (51-100 employees): Shopworks Architecture
- XS (1-50 employees): Pet Sustainability Coalition
Organizations that signed up for Go-Tober earned points each time their employees logged non-solo driving trips on MyWayToGo.org or the CommuteTracker app. Then each participating employer was ranked on a public-facing online leaderboard. The top business in each size category will be featured in an ad on the Denver Business Journal website in November.
