The City of Boulder needs your input on the concept plan for downtown’s biggest transformation in decades! The online questionnaire for Civic Area Phase 2 Engagement Window 3 closes on August 11. The project team has created an easy online form where you can review the proposed concept design and help prioritize which features should be built within the available budget.
The online questionnaire is available in both English and Spanish and takes just a few minutes to complete. The City has made it simple to share your thoughts on the community’s top choices, including an upgraded bandshell for local performances, a year-round farmers market hall and beer garden for social gathering, a “Boulder Beach” area along the creek, different ideas for family-focused nature connection, and a mobility hub. Based on extensive community feedback over the past year and a half, Boulder has developed a concept plan featuring the most popular elements residents requested, but with limited budget, the Civic Area planners need to know which features matter most to you.
This isn’t just about creating another park – it’s about transforming the area between 9th Street, Canyon Boulevard, 14th Street, and Arapahoe Avenue into Boulder’s true civic heart. The project aims to create a beautiful recreational river park with stunning Flatirons views, better connect downtown with the CU campus via the Arboretum Path, provide inclusive gathering spaces for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and celebrate Boulder’s unique character while serving our community.
With construction planned for 2027-2028, the feedback collected through August 11 will help determine what actually gets built. Boulder’s landscape architects with the Parks and Recreation Department are in the critical design phase where your input can still make a real difference. The City has worked hard to reach diverse voices through focus groups and community events, but they need broad participation in this final online push to ensure the results represent the whole community.
