The Boulder Clean Commute pilot program is now underway! Employers in the Central Area General Improvement District (CAGID) and the Boulder Junction Access District (BJAD) can now sign up through a customized Commutifi platform online to reward employees’ sustainable work trips and receive matching funds to do so.
Launched by the City of Boulder with the Boulder Chamber and the Downtown Boulder Partnership, the Boulder Clean Commute pilot program provides cash rewards for employees who choose sustainable transportation modes to get to and from work. Sustainable modes include anything except driving alone, such as carpooling, vanpooling, taking transit, riding a scooter, walking, or bicycling.
The city will match employer-provided incentives up to $1.25 per qualified work trip for a total of up to $2.50 per day per employee who commutes sustainably. With the match, employees can earn up to $5 per day. Employees will receive their cash incentives via a virtual debit card. These rewards can either be spent on local transportation service providers or at participating CAGID and BJAD businesses. City-matched funding comes directly from the districts in which reward dollars are reinvested.
Participating employers can apply for the state Alternative Transportation Options Tax Credit, which provides a 50% tax credit on any funds they use to invest in the program.
Thanks to a sector partnership grant to the Boulder Chamber from the Colorado Workforce Development Council, employers in the food, beverage and hospitality sector in CAGID and BJAD can have their Clean Commute contributions covered while funds last.
To sign up for Boulder Clean Commute as a participating employer, set up your account here. To enroll as a participating Boulder business where employees can spend their reward dollars, sign up using the online merchant participation form. Only businesses located within CAGID and BJAD are eligible to participate.
