There’s never been a better time to buy an electric bicycle, especially if you live in the city of Boulder. As part of its efforts to expand access to e-bikes and to help advance Boulder’s climate and transportation goals, the city is offering discount vouchers for residents to buy e-bikes and e-cargo bikes at participating local bike shops.
Starting at 9 am on Thursday, July 6, anyone can apply for a voucher through the city’s application portal. The application portal will be open for two weeks, until 5 pm on Wednesday, July 19. Applicants should allow about 30 minutes to complete the “pre-application” online, which includes a detailed survey. The vouchers will be distributed through a sweepstakes process, with 200 winners randomly selected from the pool of applicants. After being selected, winners will have 96 hours to complete the full application. This is the first of two rounds of voucher distributions, with the second round opening in September.
Vouchers will help offset the cost of buying an e-bike, with larger discounts available to applicants who earn less than 80% of the area median income. Income-qualified voucher recipients will have the option to receive a $200 starter kit voucher which can be used towards safety accessories, including bike helmets, bike locks, bike lights, and child seats. Find out all the details and the link to apply on the city’s E-Bike Incentives Program website here.
