On Monday, March 18, Boulder Transportation Connections (BTC) staff met up with RTD Community Engagement Manager Brandon Figliolino at the newly reopened Downtown Boulder Transit Station to hand out goodie bags and notes of support on National Transit Employee Appreciation Day.
We distributed 30 goodie bags packed with healthy snacks to bus drivers within the first hour of the event. Between 10 am and 12 pm, we handed out treats and cans of seltzer water to a total of about 100 RTD employees and riders, including customer service staff, bus drivers in training, and veteran employees with many years of service. Riders hand-wrote notes of appreciation for their drivers, and drivers in turn expressed appreciation for being recognized as essential service providers and valuable community connectors.
One transit operator, Melissa, who drives the 225 bus, gratefully received a bag of snacks and said that she would share it with riders in need. “You never know when someone might need something to eat,” she said.
RTD customers can share messages of thanks for a bus or rail operator, or express gratitude to any other RTD employee, department, or service throughout the week. To submit a message online, click this link and fill out the form: RTD National Transit Employee Appreciation Day.
Messages will be collected through Friday, March 22, then shared throughout the agency. Messages can be submitted anonymously.
