The City of Boulder invites community members to take part in an open Design Workshop Week for the North 30th Street Preliminary Design Project. Starting with a kickoff event on January 13, the week culminates with a public open house on January 16. All events will take place at the Park Central Building (1739 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302).
The North 30th Street Preliminary Design Project aims to make travel on north 30th Street between Arapahoe Avenue (CO 7) and CO 119 (also known as the Diagonal Highway) safer, more connected and more comfortable. During next week’s in-person events and drop-in open design studios, city staff will share what they heard from the community and learned from data collected in 2024. At the open design studios, attendees can join the project team as they sketch and build out ideas for conceptual design alternatives and the criteria for evaluating each one. The week will culminate with an in-person open house presenting the alternatives and draft criteria on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, from 4-7 p.m.
“The door is open to our community to join the process as we work toward alternatives to make 30th Street safer for everyone,” said Transportation Planning Manager Stephen Rijo. “We hope this series of events helps bring together the community and our transportation professionals to focus on the design of 30th Street in a direct and accessible way.”
While community members can drop in at any time during any event, all hosted at the Park Central Building, the open house will be the most important event for the community to attend. Refreshments will be provided, and staff who are bilingual in English and Spanish will be available at all events. The week of events includes:
- Workshop Week Kickoff: Monday, Jan. 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. Find out more about the project, discover what the project team heard from the community and learned from data analysis in 2024, and speak to project staff about your ideas for north 30th Street.
- Open Design Studio: Join the project team as they sketch and build out ideas for design options for north 30th Street.
- Session 1: Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 4:30-6 p.m.
- Session 2: Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Open House: Thursday, Jan. 16 from 4-7 p.m. The project team will present the results of the workshop week, which will include conceptual design alternatives and criteria for evaluating each one. A virtual, on-demand option will also be available the following week, with opportunities to provide feedback.
The project is part of Boulder’s Vision Zero Action Plan to end serious and fatal crashes, as 30th Street is a current top crash location and on the High Risk Network — city streets with the highest future risk of serious and fatal crashes. The project also supports the city’s priority Core Arterial Network initiative, the connected system of transportation improvements along Boulder’s main corridors that will make it safer, more comfortable and convenient for people to get where they need to go no matter how they travel.
