Registration is open for our first-ever Connect Boulder Summer Social on Wednesday, June 3, at Hyatt Place Boulder Pearl Street. It’s the perfect way to roll into Walk and Bike Month with your friends and colleagues.
The event kicks off at 3:30 pm with three dynamic speakers who will address the past, present, and future of our transportation systems and how smart connections between land use and transportation create cities that are joyful, functional, and built for people.
First, you’ll hear from Shoshana Lew, outgoing Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Transportation, reflecting on eight years of leadership and Colorado’s multimodal future.
Next, the City of Boulder’s new Director of Transportation and Mobility, Blythe Bailey, will share about how his background in architecture and urban design inform his vision for making Boulder’s streets genuinely great. Blythe came to Boulder last fall from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he served as both the Director of Design and Connectivity for the Department of Parks and Outdoors, and head of the Chattanooga Department of Transportation.
Finally, we’ll host a fireside chat with Kyle Wagenschutz of City Thread, a Colorado-based nonprofit that accelerates mobility and place-based projects to help people connect more deeply and access greater opportunity in their communities. Kyle has won many accolades for his work in pedestrian and bicycle planning, including White House Champion of Change from the Obama Administration in 2015. He previously served as Vice President of Local Innovation at People for Bikes.
Come early at 2:45 pm for a walk with Will Shepherd, the “Mayor” (mobility administrator of year-round offered resources) of Boulder Junction, to the proposed site of a new pocket park and playground in the neighborhood. You’ll receive a sketchbook and colored pencils to sketch your vision of a joyful space for Boulder Junction families (or your own “happy place”!). It’s a great way to dive into the community conversation about joyful places with a fun, hands-on activity.

From 5 to 6:30 pm, Business After Hours brings Zeal appetizers, Rev Kombucha, partner activities, and a cash bar.
Tickets are $30 for Boulder Chamber members (Business After Hours is free for members) and $80 for non-members, including heavy appetizers and a drink ticket.
Register here, and travel to the event by taking the HOP bus, a BCycle e-bike, your own bike, or carpool with friends or colleagues using our new Carpool Colorado app. Everyone who gets there without driving alone will be entered to win a stylish 30-liter Patagonia Refugio Daypack, worth $130!

All attendees will receive a plastic-free travel sketchbook with a set of colored pencils. Use it to sketch your vision of a joyful community, take colorful notes, or doodle while riding the bus! We’re excited to see you there! Bring a friend and use code “Connect” when you register to get tickets at half price.
Brought to you by Boulder Chamber Transportation Connections, with thanks to the City of Boulder, Via Mobility Services, and Hyatt Place Boulder.
