RTD’s Board of Directors sets the policies and budget decisions that shape bus and rail service across the region: decisions that matter directly to Boulder’s commuter workforce. With two candidates now running for the District O seat, Community Cycles and Better Boulder are hosting a public forum on Monday, July 27, to hear where Audrey DeBarros and Jack Rosenthal stand on the future of RTD.
This is a timely conversation for Boulder’s business community. Recent discussion of potential service reductions underscores how much RTD Board leadership affects the reliability of regional transit, which is a key factor for the roughly 60% of Boulder’s workforce that commutes in from outside the city. The candidates will speak to their vision for service levels, funding, rider experience, and rebuilding public trust in RTD.
RTD Board decisions directly influence the employer TDM programs BCTC helps administer. Route frequency, service span, and reliability all shape whether an EcoPass actually gets someone to work on time, and whether commuting by bus or rail is a viable alternative to driving alone in the first place. When service gets cut or trust in the system erodes, employers see it in lower TDM program participation and harder conversations with employees about giving up a car commute. Who sits on the RTD Board, and how they prioritize funding and service levels, has a direct bearing on whether “more choices, not fewer” remains a realistic promise for Boulder’s workforce.
Join us next Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm at Community Cycles, 2601 Spruce St., to hear how our District O candidates are hoping to influence the future of RTD. Click below to register.
