In 2024, as part of a recalibration of the Boulder Chamber’s Boulder Together initiative, more than 1,000 local business owners, nonprofit directors, and community leaders responded to an in-depth survey about the factors that both aid and impact their work in the community. Transportation emerged as a significant concern among workers who commute to and around Boulder.
We developed the Boulder Moves pillar of Boulder Together to advance greater satisfaction among regional commuters and to ensure ongoing development and promotion of convenient, safe, and sustainable multimodal transportation options within the city.
Boulder Moves represents the power of community-generated solutions. It isn’t a top-down mandate or political promise: it’s a grassroots vision developed by the people who understand Boulder’s transportation challenges firsthand. We’re working with the employers whose teams struggle with commutes, the business owners who see customers deterred by traffic and parking hassles, and the entrepreneurs who recognize that more mobility options enhance economic vitality.
The pillar’s ambitious overarching goal speaks to both the scale of opportunity and the business community’s commitment to action:
Eliminate 3 million single-occupant vehicle trips by 2028 through expanded regional connectivity and convenient micromobility options.
More than reducing traffic, Boulder Moves is about reimagining how we move through our community in ways that are easier, less stressful, more satisfying, and better for our environment and everyone around us.
What makes Boulder Moves particularly inspiring is how it demonstrates the business community’s recognition that transportation is both an economic imperative and a quality of life issue. By investing in solutions that make it easier for employees to get to work, customers to reach businesses, and residents to access opportunities throughout the region, Boulder’s business leaders are showing that sustainable transportation is good for the planet and good for business.
This community-generated approach offers a clear path forward, where private sector innovation and investment work alongside public initiatives to create lasting change. With a vision backed by data and guided by measurable outcomes, Boulder Moves is leading change and positive transformation in regional connectivity and micromobility access.
The opportunity is here. The vision is clear. The community is ready. Now it’s time to invest in Boulder Moves to make Boulder better for everyone: better for your employees who deserve easier commutes, better for your customers who want convenient access, better for our environment that benefits from reduced emissions, and better for our entire community that thrives when transportation works for all.
