Significant progress has been made on the CO 119 Safety, Mobility, and Bikeway project. The Niwot Road Park-and-Ride is taking shape and no more lengthy closures of the median are anticipated.
The median at Airport Road is being converted into a northbound-only travel lane. Anticipate lane closures and detours there while work is happening, and be aware that the right turn lane from Airport Road onto southbound CO 119 will be closed. Bikes in this area should use the full lane. RTD stops may be closed during periods of construction. You can sign up for RTD service alerts on your route to stay informed.
The median at Oxford Road is closed for approximately one month as crews install a raised crossing for the bikeway and extend the deceleration lanes. The northbound lane at 55th Street and CO 119 is also closed for the next month.
As the City of Boulder prepares for bus rapid transit service (the Diagonal Flyer) coming in 2027, bus stops within Boulder are subject to brief closures. The bus stops at 28th Street and Spruce Street, as well as 28th Street and Iris Avenue – serving the northbound Bolt and eastbound 205 and Bound service – will be closed from April 21 through April 30. The stop at 28th Street and Iris Avenue for southbound Bolt and 205 and eastbound 208 will also be closed April 21 through April 30.
Coming up in May, anticipate a closure of the 63rd Street median for installation of the multiuse path bridge spans over 63rd Street. There will also be a closure of CO 52 as the intersection of highways 52 and 119 is shifted and access to IBM Way is restored.
Help reduce congestion and maintain slower speeds on the Diagonal Highway by taking transit! Most bus stops remain open. Follow service alerts for the Bolt to see route adjustments and stop closures. The LoBo Trail provides a pleasant bike ride away from traffic on primarily soft surface trails. Cyclists will be happy to know that 63rd/61st Streets south towards Valmont are once again open, allowing riders to connect to the Boulder Creek Path via the new Valmont Road Multi-Use Path.
Remember that this is an active construction zone. Help keep workers, drivers, cyclists and all users of the corridor safe by respecting the speed limits and closures.
