The BTC team treated commuters and visitors passing through the Downtown Boulder Station to snacks, cold beverages, and friendly conversation on Transit Day, Tuesday, July 25. Our pop-up refreshment station and information table delighted riders and drivers who stopped by during the morning and afternoon commutes on what turned out to be a hot midsummer day.

RTD Community Engagement Manager Brandon Figliolino joined us in the afternoon, and our colleagues Angel Bond and Cammie Edson from Boulder County’s Mobility for All and Youth Transportation programs stopped by, too!

Talking with riders, we heard stories of gratitude for the Zero Fare for Better Air initiative, which is making it easier than ever for people to take the bus to and from work and to natural and cultural amenities around the region this summer. We chatted with a mother and daughter on their way to the Denver Botanic Gardens, who spoke animatedly about the convenience of not having to drive there. Commuters coming into Boulder with their bikes stopped by to tell us how much they enjoy being able to add some extra activity into their workday by combining modes, and a couple who ride the bus to the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora talked about how they wouldn’t commute any other way.

All together, we supported more than 200 passersby with refreshments – including healthy snacks from Trader Joe’s and complimentary coffee cards from the Capital One Café – and information about the Boulder Commuter Connections Program, EcoPass options, the Alternative Transportation Tax Credit, and the range of easy-to-use online tools to plan and map transit trips. Let’s make every day Transit Day!
